Universal Orlando is located in Orlando, Florida and while it can be an amazing place to visit, it can be quite HOT! I have lived in Orlando for almost 15 years and while I’ve lived here a long time, you’ll never really get used to the heat! I have compiled a list below of some great strategies and tips in order to beat the heat at Universal, especially if you plan to visit in the summer months!

1. Hydrate!

Be sure to stay hydrated and drink a lot of water during your visit. You can actually request free cups of ice water from any quick service location that serves sodas from Universal paper cups. You can also purchase the refillable souvenir cup (shown in the photo above) OR, bring your own cup! Both types of cups will work at the refillable drink locations for free ice water. Depending on the time of year (and how hot it is outside) some of the machines may run out of ice quickly. You’ll still be able to get water from the machine for free and I highly recommend doing this so that way you drink plenty of liquids throughout the day. Remember, dehydration can happen really quickly, so drink water before, during,  and after your time in the parks.

2.  Start EARLY.

If you are staying on Universal property or have purchased your park tickets through me utilize early park admission! You can ride some great rides that are available during this time and get into the parks early to enjoy it before it starts getting too hot during the day.

3. Stay at a premier resort.

When you stay at a premier resort, you will receive unlimited express passes for every guest in your room. You’ll get to maximize your time in the parks while minimizing your time waiting in line. Having skip the line access makes your time limited waiting in line. This can help with wait times outdoors and get you indoors faster. Nothing is worse than it being super hot and having to wait in a long line that is outdoors. Express Passes are totally worth it, especially during the summer!

4. Stay on-site at Universal.

When staying on-site, you can easily get back to your hotel room for a quick break during the day. This will allow you to take a break in the AC in your hotel room, change into non-sweaty clothes, or take a dip in the hotel pool.  Start early, go back to your hotel around noon during the hottest part of the day, and come back in the late afternoon/early evening once the summer showers have passed to cool down the temperature in the park and when the sun is going down. That will help with the heat!

5. Pick indoor attractions and shows during the hottest parts of the day.

If you can’t go back to your hotel or are too far to leave during the middle of your park day, start your morning with outdoor rides while it’s not too hot outside. Then, during the middle of the day, plan your indoor rides and shows to get a break from the heat. You’ll get the chance to cool down in the AC during show performances like Jason Bourne’s Stuntacular or the Horror Makeup Show at Universal Studios.

6. Purchase a 3-Park ticket to include Volcano Bay WaterPark during your visit to Universal!

This water park is amazing! You’ll find rides, shade, tons of water, and a great way to break up hot days in the other parks with a relaxing day at the water park. Read more about my experience at Volcano Bay here.

7. Wear cool, loose clothing.

Don’t wear anything tight. Bring another change of clothes if you want to change throughout the day in case your clothes get too sweaty or hot. Don’t forget a hat, deodarant, sunglasses, and sunscreen!

8. Bring a portable hand fan and charger.

This is the one I bring with me everywhere. It folds up and is compact and doesn’t take up much room in your bag.

9. Go shopping!

Universal has great merchandise and fun-themed treats to buy all throughout their parks! My favorite location is the Universal Tribute Store where you’ll find air conditioning, and a fun place to hang out a bit. This is a great way to cool down and spend some time taking a break indoors!
