Hi, Friends! I’m back from the most epic trip that I have been on and can’t wait to share more about it with you. As a travel agent, I have great access to tons of different itineraries and pricing that are available for booking. I can find private tours, shared group tours, river cruises, etc. If you want something specific, I can find it for you! This trip to Egypt was for my dad’s birthday. His dream has always been to visit Egypt, so we made it happen! I knew he wanted to see the highlights and with work PTO between everyone, we found the right itinerary that worked for our family.

I picked the 9-Day Egypt Highlights and Nile Cruise. While I would have loved to spend more time in Egpyt, being gone for almost 2 weeks (We did Paris on the front and backend of our trip), it was already a long time to be gone, so we knew this would be the best itinerary for all of us.

Here is what our itinerary looked like:

Day 1: Cairo

 Arrival

Day 2: Cairo

Half-Day Pyramids of Giza & the Sphinx, Entrance to Chephren Pyramid

Day 3: Cairo to Luxor

Half Day Temples of Karnak and Luxor  and board our river cruise

Day 4: Luxor

Valley of the Kings and Queens with King Tut’s Tomb, Nefertari Tomb

Day 5: Nile River

Sail to Edfu, Horus Temple Tour, Half Day Kom Ombo Temple Tour

Day 6: Aswan – Kitchener Island & Aga Khan Tour by Felucca, Half Day High Dam, Temple of Philae & Obelisk Tour

Day 7: Aswan Flight to Cairo

Day 8: Cairo

Egyptian Museum & National Museum of Civilization with Royal Mummies Hall

Day 9: Flight Home from Cairo

When you hear a destination like Egypt, you may think “Wow, I won’t get there until I retire!” or “That’s a bucket list destination!” Both can be true, but it’s more doable than you think!

This was the best trip I have been on and I don’t think you should wait to visit this until you’re older and retired! This trip was very much on the go the entire trip. It wasn’t very relaxing, but we knew this going into the trip. You have a short window of time to see and do as much as possible, so you don’t sleep a lot, especially with early flights to/from different cities. One of the main reasons you shouldn’t wait to book a trip to Egypt is because of how much walking up/down stairs, around museums, etc. that you do. The Valley of the Kings is full of tombs that are partially underground, so it can be very strenuous to go up and down the stairs inside the tombs. There is no air conditioning inside of them, so if you’re visiting in the summer, the heat is an added element to make it that much harder on your body.  It is A LOT of walking and standing, listening to all of the amazing history that has taken place. Egypt is not very handicap accessible, so if you plan to wait until you’re much older, it can be much harder on the body. I don’t mean all this to scare anyone, my goal is for everyone to visit in the future and have the best experience possible. You don’t want to put off a trip of a lifetime and then not be able to enjoy it! Want to ride a camel? It’s much harder to get on than you think! It may look glamorous, but I was holding on for dear life and my thighs/shoulders felt all of that the next day lol! Our trip was very much on the go, but if you have more time, you can work in a few “rest” days to enjoy the hotel and relax so that way you give yourself a little time to recharge.

There are so many great reasons to visit Egypt right now:

  1. Egypt has one of the oldest civilizations in the world. You’ll get to visit the Valley of the Queen and Kings (including King Tut’s tomb which is truly a site to see.). Archaeologists are still making new discoveries which is incredible!

2.  The weather is great year-round (much hotter in the summer, but still doable if you visit in May!) Egypt’s warmer climate makes it ideal for year-round trips. However, I don’t suggest visiting in July or August. Most of our tours started super early in the morning so that way we were done by the hottest part of the day so we could go back to the hotel/ship and relax for the afternoon before dinner.

3. A Nile Cruise is an amazing experience and once in a lifetime. There are tons of options, making it possible for all types of budgets and it’s such a fun and relaxing way to travel. Nile cruises are smaller riverboats and are designed more for sightseeing instead of partying. However, there was nightly entertainment that was family-friendly. We saw young couples, older couples, and families, so the Nile River Cruise is a great way to sightsee for everyone!

4. The food in Egypt is amazing! Not going to lie – I was afraid of what the food would be like in Egypt! It was delicious! So much so that Dan and I came back to Florida and found an Egyptian market by our house and have been buying food that we had in Egypt from there lol! The food is SO fresh and everything tastes so good. I didn’t venture too much into some of their food choices because I was scared my stomach wouldn’t be able to handle it and I’d be sick, but the lightly spiced food was great.

5. Egypt has some of the best museums in the world. Visiting tons of museums sounds daunting, but the way you can break up your time in Egypt makes it so much more enjoyable. We went to a few museums and really enjoyed them. We are not museum people, but really appreciated everything that we saw.

I’ll be doing a breakdown of each of our days spent in Egypt and will share more of that soon!
